Evangelicals & the “Woke Military” Controversy
A political firestorm erupted after the Secretary of Defense removed four officers from a military promotion list, reportedly due to concerns about “woke ideology.” I submit Wokeism has no part in military life and salute the Trump administration for moving aggressively to remove all adherence to such a demoralizing worldview.

Critics immediately accused the administration of discrimination. Supporters argued the decision simply reflects the implementation of a campaign promise. The controversy illustrates the deep cultural divisions currently shaping American political discourse.
Trump’s Campaign Promise
During the presidential campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly promised to remove what he described as “Woke Ideology” from the armed forces.

Donald Trump repeatedly promised to remove what he described as “Woke Ideology” from the armed forces.
His argument was straightforward and clearly persuasive to the American people, which won him a second term in office.
The military exists to defend the nation and win wars—not to promote ideological activism.
That message resonated with many voters who believed the military’s core mission was being diluted by political and cultural debates.
The Authority of Government

Image of the Constitution
From a constitutional standpoint, presidents possess the authority to appoint officials and shape policy within the executive branch. Americans cast their ballots to signal agreement or disagreement so that the people's voice is always heard. That is why I remain flabergasted that Liberals take to Social Media to act as if some grave injustice has been foisted upon the American people.
Cabinet officials exist precisely to implement the agenda of the elected president. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth understood that he had advised senior military officials to resign if they could not serve in good faith under the new direction.
For Evangelicals, the discussion should also be grounded in Scripture.
“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority.”— 1 Peter 2:13

The Bible recognizes that governing authorities possess legitimate authority within their sphere.
This does not mean government decisions are always wise, but it does mean authority itself is part of God’s ordering of society. Evangelicals can resist a leader's decision only if it clearly and explicitly contradicts the Word of God.
Evangelicals and Cultural Outrage
The woke military controversy illustrates how quickly political narratives form before facts are fully examined.
Evangelicals should resist the temptation to adopt the surrounding culture's patterns of outrage.
Instead, believers should evaluate political controversies through the lens of Scripture and principled reasoning.
Modern political discourse often rewards outrage more than careful reflection.

A Moment for Evangelical Reflection
The present controversy may reveal something deeper about American evangelicalism.
Many Evangelicals strongly support political leaders when those leaders promise cultural change.
Yet when those promises are implemented, the reaction sometimes becomes divided.
For Evangelicals committed to biblical authority, the challenge is to evaluate political events carefully and consistently. Yet, that commitment is precisely what I do not see as people interact with me
