Evangelicals & The Abortion Illusion: When Even Abortion Advocates Admit the Truth

The Truth That Refuses to Stay Hidden

The humanity of the unborn is not a theological abstraction—it is a biological reality.

For decades, the abortion debate in America has been framed as a dispute over “choice,” “rights,” and “healthcare.” But beneath the slogans and carefully constructed language lies a reality that even some of the most prominent advocates of abortion have admitted.

Recent reflections from actress iChristina Applegate—where she acknowledged in her own journaling that she was ending the life of her unborn child—force an uncomfortable question back into the public square:

Do we actually believe what we are saying about abortion? Because when the rhetoric is stripped away, the truth remains stubbornly clear. Abortion is not merely a political issue. It is a moral one. And ultimately, it is a theological one.

Even the Abortion Movement Has Admitted the Reality

One of the most devastating admissions against the abortion narrative did not come from a Pro-Life advocate. No, it came from within the movement itself.

Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a co-founder of the abortion rights movement and former president of NARAL, later confessed:

Bernard Nathanson abortion quote human life

Former NARAL president Bernard Nathanson later admitted the unborn child is human life.

Alt text: Bernard Nathanson abortion quote human life

“It does not do us any good, those of us who are pro-abortion, to pretend the fetus is not a human life. Of course, it is human life.”

This is not a fringe statement. It is a candid admission from a man who once helped architect the modern abortion movement. He said the horrible part OUT LOUD.

Nathanson later revealed that much of the movement’s success relied on carefully crafted language designed to obscure the humanity of the unborn.

Words like:

  • “tissue”

  • “product of conception.”

  • “termination”

  • “reproductive healthcare.”

These are not neutral descriptions. They are strategic. They are designed to distance the act from its moral weight. Because once the humanity of the unborn is acknowledged, the entire argument shifts.

The question is no longer “Is it life?” The question becomes: What justifies ending that life?

The Scientific Question Was Never the Real Debate

From a biological standpoint, the matter is not controversial. Human life begins at conception. Evangelicals have no legitimate excuse because God's Word makes it explicitly clear. God told Jeremiah that God knew Jeremiah before he was conceived.

At that moment, a new organism exists with:

  • unique DNA

  • a distinct biological identity

  • a continuous trajectory of development

There is no scientific stage at which a non-human becomes human. The unborn child is human from the very beginning. The debate, therefore, has never truly been scientific. It has always been moral and always will be until the Lord returns.

America Under the Judgment of Almighty God

When a society knowingly suppresses truth, it invites judgment. If God does not, then He is not really God, and if He were God and said nothing or did nothing, then He should apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.

Scripture speaks clearly to this reality: Romans 1:18 teaches that men “suppress the truth in unrighteousness.”

Scripture speaks to societies that suppress truth for the sake of unrighteousness.

This is precisely what we are witnessing. America is not confused about abortion. America is choosing not to confront its moral implications.

And that is why I argue plainly: America is under the judgment of Almighty God.

When the taking of innocent life is not only permitted but celebrated, we are no longer dealing with mere policy disagreement. We are dealing with a rebellion of epic proportions, and I can guarantee the ultimate outcome.

One of the most sobering statements I read in all of Holy Scripture is Luke 19:27:

But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.’”

The Negro Church and Moral Silence

Historically, the Negro Church stood as a prophetic voice in American society. It spoke against injustice. It called the nation to moral accountability. It proclaimed the dignity of human life, even Jesse Jackson was an ardent defender against abortion until he wasn't.

But today, what do we see in the main? We see that the Negro Church's voice has largely been muted on one of the most pressing moral issues of our time, and we do so to our utter shame.

Instead of confronting abortion, many have chosen in the professing Negro Church political alignment over biblical fidelity.

This represents a tragic departure, but not one done with impunity, and a day of fast-approaching judgment. A judgment that will hear untold millions in the professing Negro church, in particular, but not exclusively, hear Jesus Christ say, "Depart from Me."

It is not merely a political shift. It is a theological one. And it leads to a sobering conclusion. The Negro Church has apostatized writ large. This is precisely why I labor so in this vocation, to warn as many who will listen. Fully understanding, unless God removes the scales from blind eyes, nothing will change.

The Political Implication Evangelicals Must Face

This brings us to a point many would prefer to avoid. The modern Democratic Party platform does not merely tolerate abortion. It protects it. It promotes it. It seeks to expand it, and it will defend this worldview to the death.

For Evangelicals who affirm the authority of Scripture and the truth of Genesis 1:27—that human beings are created in the image of God—this creates an unavoidable conflict.

Because if the unborn child bears the image of God, then abortion is not simply a matter of policy preference. It is a matter of justice.

And therefore, I state this plainly: No Evangelical, seeking to be faithful to the Word of God, can, in good conscience, align with the Democratic Party as presently constituted, period, full-stop, and end of story.

This is not about partisan loyalty. It is about moral clarity. I beg you, the reader, to repent and turn while this is breath in your lungs and blood coursing through your veins if you are a supporter of abortion. Abortion is not the Unpardonable Sin, but it is a grievous sin and a sin that will not go unchecked or unnoticed by an all-seeing and wrathful thrice-holy God.

The Illusion Cannot Be Maintained

The cultural narrative surrounding abortion depends on one thing:

Denial. Denial of the humanity of the unborn. Denial of the moral weight of the act. Denial of the theological implications. But that illusion is becoming harder to sustain.

When even those within the abortion movement acknowledge that the unborn child is human life, the debate is forced into the open.

And once it is in the open, a decision must be made. Not politically. But morally.

Final Reflection

What we believe about abortion ultimately reveals what we believe about God. If human beings are created in His image, then life is sacred.

If life is sacred, then it must be protected. The question is no longer whether we understand this truth. The question is whether we are willing to live in light of it.
