Evangelical & Resiliency

I wanted to share something I heard someone say today on the daily Christian News podcast, The World and Everything in It, that gave me hope, joy, and a profound sense of peace.
“We've had a week of treachery, violence, and sorrow, but oh boy, Sunday’s coming,” proclaimed the host as she ended the Friday segment of the show, which I highly recommend for Evangelicals seeking to be informed of the news from a decidedly Christian perspective.
The only thing better than Sunday, the Lord’s Day, is that one day Jesus Christ will pierce the sky, and every day will be howdy howdy, and never goodbye!
Whereas when tragedy occurs in the other direction, the Left responds to senseless violence only with more senseless violence, the Right turns to the only hope in this world and the world to come, the Lord Jesus Christ.
We like to postulate that God is good all the time and all the time God is good. That time-honored maxim was just as true on this past Wednesday as it ever was.
My faith has not shrunk; it is more resolved. Violence may increase, and more lives for Christ may be lost, but we signed up for this when we decided to make Christ our King.
Satan, the god of this world, hates our King, and he foolishly believes killing Charlie Kirk will derail God’s plan.
The slaughter of our brave Brother will not do such a thing. God will raise others Charlie Kirks, because God, who is ultimately in control of all things, will always have a faithful remnant who will not bend the knee to the Baals of this world.
This week, I have personally witnessed the vileness of men and women who are taking delight in the killing of a fellow God image-bearer. We have seen a sitting governor attempt to use this tragic event to score political capital. We have seen a prominent political commentator shift the blame to Charlie as one deserving of death.
These are all evidence that Satan is alive and well, just as God’s Word explicitly tells us he would be, especially in these last days before the return of Jesus Christ, roaring as a Lion because he knows his time is short.
The one thing for 100% I know with crystal clear certainty is that God’s Army will be up to the task. Not because we in ourselves are strong and mighty and can do great things, but only because God, our Creator, our Redeemer, our Strong Tower, is more than up to the task. He is the One who is Strong! He is the One who is Mighty! He is the Only One who can do GREAT THINGS!
My fellow Evangelicals, yes, football season has started, and, yes, significant events will continue to appear on the calendar. Lord willing, I leave for Berlin on Tuesday to run the 2025 BMW Berlin Marathon as just one example.
Yet, despite the reality we must keep living everyday lives, let this Sunday be filled with a heightened sense of intentionality and heartfelt praise and worship for our great God. Charlie Kirk was a bold, fearless witness for Jesus Christ, but let it not stop with him.
As God enables, we can be our own Charlie Kirk within our sphere of influence. God does not grant us all the same platform. Some get a one-talent platform, some a three-talent one, and others a larger and grander one, but God will soon return and expect a return of faithfulness for what He has sovereignly entrusted to our care.
We cannot change what has happened in the past, so all we have is the present. Let us redeem the time and work while it is Day, because when Night comes, no man can work.
Night came for Brother Kirk this past Wednesday, and one day, if the Lord tarries His coming, Night will come for us all.
Let us be found faithful as Charlie was faithful. Charlie died well, gloriously promoting and making much of the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
I can not fathom a more glorious way to leave this sin-stained world.
As usual, let me know what you think. Until then, keep your hand to the plow and seek to serve for an Audience of One.
With fear & trembling,
Ricky V Kyles Sr. DEd.Min
