Evangelicals & The Sanctity of Life

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. Matthew 5:37

You should not murder. Exodus 20:13

Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image. Genesis‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬

What once took nearly centuries to change regarding moral thinking and actions is moving at warp speed in increasingly morally debased ways.

Just think, as recently as 1996, the Democratic National Committee platform had the decency to classify their position on abortion as a “difficult issue,” and  they acknowledged due to this difficulty, they “respect the individual conscience of each American.” Their official platform called for making abortions “less necessary” and “more rare.”

You might remember the famous William Jefferson Clinton quote where he opined abortions should be “safe, legal and rare.”

You might remember Joseph Robinette Biden steadfastly advocating that taxpayers should not be forced to see their taxes fund abortions.

You might remember politicians ranging from Mario Cuomo to Edward Kennedy to Nancy Pelosi opining they are personally against abortions but support the right of others to have abortions if they so choose.

In passing, most Americans don’t know it was John Fitzgerald Kennedy who assembled a team of Liberal Roman Catholic scholars at the Kennedy compound to craft a message to skirt the abortion question.

That Kennedy Pow-Wow is the genesis of the “I am personally opposed” mantra as if when one stands before God, that foolish defense will make a hill of beans of difference.

Listen to the Mumbo-Jumbo from 2016 Vice-Presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine, “I have a traditional Catholic personal position, but I am very strongly supportive that women should make those decisions and the government shouldn’t intrude.”

Who could say they, with a straight face, oppose bestiality but would not force their views on others?

Who could say, with full integrity, that they are personally opposed to pedophiles but would not force their opposition upon others?

Who could say, with any credibility whatsoever, they are opposed to, say, murder or rape but would not want to impose their narrow views on others?

I know the interlocutor strenuously objects at this point on the grounds the aforementioned acts are vile and immoral, and the interlocutor has just acknowledged the Achilles Heel of his argument. Abortion is equally vile and immoral.

Humanity has, up until the twentieth century, universally condemned the act of abortion.

Here are just a few examples:

The Sentences of Pseudo-Phocylides 184–186 (c. 50 B.C.–A.D. 50) says that “a woman should not destroy the unborn in her belly, nor after its birth throw it before the dogs and vultures as a prey.”

The Didache 2.2 (c. A.D. 85–110) commands, “Thou shalt not murder a child by abortion nor kill them when born.”

The Letter of Barnabas 19.5 (c. A.D. 130) said: “You shall not abort a child nor, again, commit infanticide.”

Jewish historian Josephus wrote that “the law orders all the offspring to be brought up, and forbids women either to cause abortion or to make away with the fetus” (Against Apion 2.202).

So, what explains the seismic shift in modern man’s thinking concerning the sacredness of life in the womb? Has modern technology provided insight not known to our early forefathers?

No, on the contrary, advancements in technology only strengthen the understanding that the life in the womb has full personhood:

The child in the womb has their own unique DNA.

The child’s in the womb heartbeat can be detected as early as six weeks.

The sonogram has been a game-changer as prospective mothers can see the child in the womb forming in their belly.

Medical imagery can graphically show the child in the womb experiencing pain and joy.

Sadly, I consciously realize none of this will sway those in spiritual darkness in the slightest, so why do I bother to write when I know it will fall mostly on deaf ears?

I write because this allows me to utilize my gifts and callings for one. Yet, more importantly, I write because I know how one views and responds to the question of how abortion impacts one's eternity. Thus, my heart aches for the many people I know personally who are trapped in spiritual bondage.

I write exclusively to the professing Evangelical community, especially with AAs in mind. My query to you, the professing Evangelicals, most especially to you, the professing AA Evangelicals, is this:

Why are you so silent?

Why do you align with the Party of Death?

Why are you not outraged, as I am,  that AA females constitute 6.5% of the population in America but comprise nearly 40% of abortions?

Why are AA Pastors not preaching from their pulpits and marching in the streets and expressing moral outrage and indignation like AA ministers did opposing Jim Crowism?

Why are alleged pastors like Ralphael Warnock and Al Sharpton rewarded for their debased position on abortion when the Bible is so abundantly clear regarding abortion?

I tell you why. It is because you are walking in darkness, even if you think you are a People of the Way. People of the Way let their nays be nays. People of Way strenuously and passionately protect the most vulnerable of society. That is the spirit behind visiting the orphans and widows (James 1:27).

I write to plead with you to turn from your wicked ways and turn instead to Jesus Christ while there is still hope, while there is blood still pumping and air still flowing.

I also write to offer, as a Minister of the Gospel, God’s Graceful and Merciful offer of Divine Pardon for those females who have had an abortion and for those giving support to abortion, either explicitly or implicitly. While abortion will forever be a most heinous sin, it is still nonetheless not the Unpardonable Sin!

Eternity literally hangs in the balance in this manner. Abortion is not some second-level, tertiary; we can agree to disagree theological matters.

America, through enacted judicial fiat, is sanctioning the murder, the slaughter of life created by God, in His Imago Dei with what we foolishly and grievously regard as with full impunity.

Nothing could be further from the truth. There will be a Day of Reckoning the world has never seen, even greater than when God destroyed the world by flood. The only remaining question is who will pay on that Day of Reckoning?

Will the pound of flesh be yours, or will you instead accept the substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ by repenting of your sins and abhorring the vile act of abortion while there is still hope?

I must, at some point, bring this to a close, but the Democratic Party has ruefully decided to make abortion their main line of argument for Election 2024.

They do so because they are reading the political tea leaves from recent state elections, especially from Red States.  They smell blood in the waters and are moving aggressively in for the kill. They openly advocate for Roe to become the Law of the Land by Congressional legislation.

In closing, my fellow committed Evangelicals, we must prepare ourselves to realize we may lose this battle, but thankfully, we can never lose the War.  Jesus Christ settled the War at Calvary when Christ gloriously proclaimed, “It is finished” (John 19:30).

Jesus Christ of Nazareth has promised He will return, and His reward will be with Him (Revation 22:12).

He will vanquish all foes with the breath of His mouth (2 Thessalonians 2:8).

He will command all rebels who refused to bend the knee to His Lordship to be brought before Him and be slaughtered before Him (Luke 19:27).

Satan has blinded our neighbors’ eyes from seeing the truth. Their only hope is for God to remove the scales from their eyes. I implore my Evangelical brethren to pray and never cease praying for those in their sphere of influence that they repent and turn to Christ before it is too late.

As usual, let me know what you think. Until then, keep your hands to the plow and seek to serve for an Audience of One.

With fear and trembling,

Ricky Kyles DEd.Min

P.S. I want to again emphasize to those who have had an abortion that as grievous as that act is, there is still Grace and Mercy available through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, but repent, you must!
