Evangelicals & Biblical Repentance

As we are just mere days away from celebrating the Birth of Jesus Christ, I wanted to share a very enlightening quote from Rosaria Butterfield's riveting book Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age. I highly recommend her book for her consideration and would again recommend you consider purchasing a copy of my book, Weighed and Found Wanting, especially as things start to heat up for the 2024 national elections.

As professing Evangelicals, I would submit we grievously err if we believe we can engage politically with impunity. As with everything else, God will hold us accountable for everything done in the body, whether good or bad. I again and most strenuously submit no Evangelical, seeking to be faithful to the Word of God, can, in good conscience align with the Democratic Party, as presently constituted.

I further submit I will not be voting for Donald J. Trump if he is indeed the Republican candidate on the ballot. God help me if I found in error, but I believe voting for Trump is beyond the pale based on current events and his deplorable conduct since he has left office.

Having said that, I respect any fellow Evangelical who comes to a different resting place about the candidacy of DJT. One thing I trust Evangelicals can all unite behind is that the Democratic Party is Person Non-Grata!!!

Now, to the Butterfield quote. Sista Gurl Butterfield provides a good word (see attached meme) for Christ-followers, especially at the end of the quote.

It is so tragic our world, particularly in the professing Evangelical community, is replete with individuals who fail to exhibit awareness they have been both offenders as well as the person offended. I acknowledge I have hurt as well as being hurt by others.

Yet, let us always keep the main thing the main thing. The person first and most offended by our actions is the Thrice-Holy God! “Against you only have I sinned and done this evil” is what King David wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Psalms 51.

Biblical repentance entails three vital and Sine Non Qua components:

1) a change of our mind: “As a man thinketh, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)” It always begins in the mind as God made us first thinking people!

2) a change of our affection: “I delight to do thy will. O my God: Yea. thy law is within my heart. (Psalms 40:8)” Enabled by the Holy God we go from delight in our sin to delighting in obeying the Word of God.

3) a change of our volition: “Faith without works is dead (James 2:26).” The proof will always be in the pudding. Sanctification is the second plank of Salvation whereby the Evangelical grows into more and more Christlikeness!

As usual, keep your hands to the plow and seek to serve for an Audience of One!

With fear and trembling,

Ricky Verndale Kyles DEd.Min

P.S. I solicit your prayers for a dear Brother in Christ, Kelvin Johnson, who had a massive stroke this past Thursday (12-21-23). Based on feedback from his dear wife, Daise, things are not looking good per the doctors, but I trust you agree with me that doctors never have th final word!

Pray most of all that God’s immaculate will is done on the Earth as it is being done in Heaven!
